Dental Crown

A crown is a cover for a tooth weakened by decay or by recurrent fillings. The cosmetic dentist removes the decay and a small amount of enamel (slightly more than the thickness of a dime) from the surface of the affected tooth over which the crown will fit. Crowns may also be required after a tooth canal or when a tooth cracks or breaks. The most common crown types are gold crowns, porcelain crowns, and metal alloys crowns.

Crowns can last from five to more than 20 years, depending on the material used. The type of material used can effect the crown cost. When using dental insurance crown cost can vary as well.

Often people who are interested in dental crowns are also interested in porcelain veneers and other cosmetic dental procedures.
