Replacing Missing Teeth with a Dental Bridge

Conventional dental bridges use crowns on adjacent teeth with a pontic -the false tooth-in between. Generally these are made of porcelain and metal to give a nice look and to have durability.
Think of a dental bridge like a bridge across a highway or river. At each end there is an abutment structure that the bridge holds onto. That’s what the adjacent teeth do in a dental bridge.
In the middle is the pontoon or pontic that replaces the missing teeth. Bridge work has a good success rate and might be the most appropriate methodology for replacing missing teeth.
Unfortunately some dentists are continuing to use dental bridges which dental implants would be a better choice. Make sure, if you’re having a missing tooth replaced, that you’re having it replaced the best way possible. The best replacement will vary from individual to individual based upon the condition of the teeth that are going to be part of the bridge and how much bone is available for a dental implant.
